Do you ever contact the buyer to get the item to them, or is that a bad idea? This particular seller has a (0) feedback rating. I watched this whole drama unfold through the tracking info from USPS. There will be no more freebies from me for forwarded packages. I do this because PayPal and eBay can find for the buyer if an "Item Not Received" case shows delivery to any address other than the address given with the payment (especially if it gets forwarded to a different ZIP code). The package will be returned (and the refund issued) if the address given is undeliverable or forwarded. I also point out that I ship my packages marked "RETURN SERVICE REQUESTED, Do not forward," so I need the actual delivery address. If the buyer still wants the item, I invoice through PayPal and expect the payment to arrive with new shipping/handling funds, and with a correct shipping address. That's why I issue the refund preemptively. eBay has made it much harder to open a case when a refund has been issued. Technically, the buyer can open an "Item Not Received" case for this and get their full payment back. This violates eBay's " False or missing contact information policy." I also report the buyer for the policy violation. Once the item is out of reach of the buyer, I issue the refund. If it is, I ask for the item to be sent back ASAP and call back in a few days. I call the post office where the "Undeliverable as addressed" status comes from and ask if the package is still there and available for the customer to pick up the item. I do this sometimes before the item is fully returned to me. First, I immediately refund the purchase price only (not shipping).
